When the snow hit Cumbria last week, most people would have seen that as an opportunity to stay in bed.

Not Arthur Bramwell, though, who saw the chance to finally accomplish a dream from his childhood.

On Wednesday, Arthur climbed up Helvellyn near Ambleside and chose to ski down the mountain, with his photos from the day capturing the beauty that the region has to offer.

He said: "Growing up in the Lake District, it’s a rare occasion when we get a day without miserable, monotonous cold drizzle, let alone a day of crisp blue skies, freezing temperatures, and snow.

"Those are the real beauties, they come round once a year if you’re lucky and you’ve got to make the most of them."

When Arthur woke up under the comfort of his duvet last week, he told himself that it was finally time to 'go for it'.

"I was greeted with absolutely stunning views over the snow-capped fells of the lake district, dare I say that it almost looked alpine!

"I prepped myself and sprung up in my skis to make the first turn with a woosh and my weight what felt like in all the wrong places I managed to wrestle my skis into a parallel with the face.

"With the first turn under my belt my confidence grew and slowly and surely, I picked my way down the slope, attempting to doge the rocks which lay in wait beneath the snow, wincing each time I felt my skies clatter over them."

For Arthur, seeing the physical reminders of his journey made it all worthwhile.

He explained: "Looking back at the tracks and marks I had left in the snow, I reflected on the mark the descent had left on me.

"These were the hills that I had grown up being dragged on walks as a child - it was a dream of mine to ski here on the fells of my home, and finally the dream came true!"
