THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain for much of northern, central and eastern Cumbria this weekend. 

The weather warning will be in place for 24 hours. It starts on Sunday at 6am and ends on Monday at 6am. 

It includes Carlisle, Cockermouth, Brampton, Wigton, Keswick, Penrith, Alston, Allendale, Kirkby Stephen, Ambleside, Bowness, Kendal, Sedbergh, Kirkby Lonsdale and parts of North Yorkshire such as Hawes, Bentham and Settle. 

Places on the west coast such as Silloth, Workington, Whitehaven, Millom and Barrow are just outside the weather warning zone for rain. 

The Met Office website states: "Heavy rain likely to lead to disruption from flooding across parts of northern England on Sunday and early Monday. 

"What to expect:

  • "Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • "Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • "Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • "Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely."

This is on top of an existing yellow weather warning for wind which is also in place from 6am Sunday to 6am Monday. This weather warning covers much of the UK.
