A MAN has been convicted after trial of multiple child sex offences against two underage girls in Barrow.

Cavan Bryan was found guilty on all six counts by a jury who deliberated over evidence in the case for just over six hours following a week-long trial at Preston Crown Court.

The 20-year-old, formerly of Barrow but now of Arnside Crescent, Morecambe, was convicted of three counts of sexual activity with a child, two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one count of making an offer to supply cocaine to another.

He also pleaded guilty to supplying a controlled Class A drug (cocaine) to another at an earlier hearing.

Prosecutor Peter Barr told the jury when opening the case how Bryan approached and asked the girls for directions to a nearby pub in the early hours of a morning in 2021.

Shortly after he then produced a bag of cocaine from his pocket, sniffed a line himself from a key before pressuring one of the girls to take it, Mr Barr said.

When questioned in cross-examination by Michelle Brown, representing the defendant, the 14-year-old girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, said: “He offered me to have some and I made up an excuse by saying I had done it before when I hadn’t.

“He was pressuring us both to have it.”

The court heard the 14-year-old girl was ‘falling asleep drunk’ when she stumbled into a bush full of nettles.

It comes after Mr Barr said her and her 13-year-old friend had been drinking vodka mixed with lemonade beforehand.

Later in the evening, the court heard he suggested to the two girls that he should have sex with them in the form of a threesome, but the girls said ‘no’.

Mr Barr said Bryan then kissed the 14-year-old girl on the lips while touching her breasts and genitals.

In finding the defendant guilty, the jury also believed Bryan sexually assaulted the 13-year-old girl by placing his hand on her bottom and touching her genitals over her clothing.

The jury heard the girl was able to identify Bryan the following morning after he had attempted to log into Snapchat on her phone.

He will be sentenced by Her Honour Judge Heather Lloyd on April 16 at Preston Crown Court.

He was released on bail.
