THE first phase of restoration of a historic building is 'well underway', said its project manager.

The Roxy Collective used its social media to announce the new updates on the renovations of the Roxy Building.

In a video shared on its Facebook, Mel Newton, project manager of the Roxy Collective, said that the first phase of renovations is 'well underway.'

She said: "The flat roof is complete, which means we have got rid of the duck pond and making sure that the building is watertight.

"We have got signs up that show the new branding logo and colour scheme. It is cream, gold and mustard, which is sympathetic to the art deco style of the building, but with a modern twist."

The project manager also explained that they had some external rendering done to enable them to get the first coat of cream paint along the wall, and soon, some accents of the gold and mustard colours will come in as the painting progresses.

As part of this first phase, the collective is also looking to get a new sign up on the front of the building.

"This will be very similar to what was there originally, but again, with a slightly modern twist," explained Ms Newton.

"Once the external work is completed in this first phase, the scaffolding will be coming down, and we can have a big reveal to show all of the new colours, branding and the signage."

The Roxy Collective is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, consisting of a local group of volunteers based in Ulverston.

Their objective is to ensure The Roxy building is protected, preserved, restored and revitalised for the community for the many years to come.

Thanks to donations from the local community, general public, private donors and various funding bodies, the Roxy Collective bought the Ulverston building last year.
