A village in Cumbria recorded the lowest temperature last night of any place in England.

It was a day of disruption throughout the county as the snow arrived for the first time this year, only a month after the region was thrown into chaos by severe wintry conditions.

Whilst the worst of the snow has already melted away, the cold weather is still sticking around, which was highlighted most of all in Shap last night.

The Met Office has revealed that the village, between Kendal and Penrith, recorded a temperature of -10.4 degrees.
