The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced 12 postcodes in Cumbria that are eligible for Cold Weather Payments in 2024.

Every day, throughout the Cold Weather Payment season, the Met Office records the average daily temperature from each of the 72 Weather Stations.

Now twelve Cumbrian areas that are covered by Shap weather station have been included in the first Cold Weather Payments of 2024.

The payments are triggered if the average temperature where you live hits zero degrees or below over seven consecutive days.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is set to give out a £25 payment towards the heating bills of around 10,000 households around the UK.

If you claim particular benefits, you will receive a payment that will be made for a seven-day period which started on Friday (January 12).

Last year there were two triggers for 11 Cumbria postcodes during the first two weeks of December which meant residents of those areas received £50.
