The answers to a FOI request have revealed that over 50 catalytic converters have been stolen since 2021.
In October 2023, a member of the public requested information about the total number of recorded catalytic converter thefts in Cumbria over the last three years, under the Freedom of Information Act.
A catalytic converter is a car part which controls exhaust emission, filtering out and reducing harmful emissions by burning byproducts in the exhaust gases, it also improves your car's efficiency.
Cumbria Constabulary filed their response on November 20, 2023, giving the total number of thefts from 2021, 2022 and October 2023 as 51.
The data disclosed by police revealed that between January 1 and December 31 of 2021, 21 catalytic converters were reported stolen in Cumbria. During the calendar year of 2022, this number decreased to 15. Over the following year, between the first of January 2023 and October 31, another 15 parts were taken.
