A MAN has been sentenced after he pleaded guilty on the day of his trial to assault and damaging a gold chain necklace.

Fergus McFadzean, of Queen Street in Ulverston, admitted he assaulted a woman by beating her on August 25 last year when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates Court on January 2.

The 39-year-old also confessed to criminal damage to property by damaging a gold chain necklace to the value of £250 belonging to the assault victim.

He was given a 12-month community order by magistrates with requirements to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £100 compensation to the victim.
