THERE will be a reduced service between Barrow and Carlisle today because of a member of the train crew being 'unavailable.'

Northern put out an update on the service disruptions section of the National Rail website. It states: "A member of train crew being unavailable between Barrow-in-Furness and Carlisle means fewer trains are able to run on all lines.

"As a result, trains between these stations may be cancelled or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day."

Northern sourced replacement road transport, which will operate as follows as listed on the website:

Departures from Barrow-in-Furness:

07:50 - Calling at all stations to Seascale then drop off as required to Carlisle. Operated by Travellers Choice.

Departures from Sellafield:

08:49 - Calling at all stations to Harrington then drop off as required to Carlisle. Operated by Travellers Choice.

10:30 - Calling at all stations to Barrow-in-Furness. Operated by Travellers Choice.

12:39 - Calling at all stations to Barrow-in-Furness. Operated by Travellers Choice.

Journey times will take an hour longer when using the bus service.

For alternative routes, the National Rail website says customers can travel using the TransPennine Express service between Carlisle and Lancaster and then board an alternative Northern service from Lancaster.

It also said that there are Stagecoach Cumbria bus services that service the coast, but customers will be required to purchase separate tickets as Northern tickets are not valid for travel on these buses.
