A Cumbrian engineering business has launched a second division, creating new jobs across the North-West community.

Forth, a renowned engineering solutions company, has opened a new Barrow-in-Furness facility alongside the launch of Forth Fabrications.

The new division is an attempt to support the BAE Systems submarine division as well as other industries across the region.

Established more than 22 years ago, Forth avows to delivering impactful solutions to industry challenges.

Its first base in Barrow was opened five years ago.

Today, the business operates from a variety of locations such as Flimby and Cleator Moor, delivering solutions for the nuclear, oil and gas, renewables and other advanced manufacturing sectors.

Its specialty lies in designing and manufacturing engineering solutions which eliminate the need for human involvement in hazardous environments.

Forth now requires a second base in Barrow for the new division, Forth Fabrications.

This is set to create five new jobs in the local area, aiding the company in delivering comprehensive services to a diverse range of industries.

Forth’s Operations Manager in Barrow Rob Sneesby said: "We have had so many requests for welding and fabrication work that we are launching Forth Fabrications.

"It’s a different workstream so we needed a dedicated area to expand and support all our operations across the whole business.

"We have found a site in Barrow and have moved in and are offering these services to our customers in a range of sectors."

Mr Sneesby stressed the advantage of having this capability in-house, allowing them total control over quality and turnaround time, while ensuring every process meets the same high standards.

He added: "We want to be the first name on people’s lips when they think about engineering solutions, fabrication, mechanical testing and installation and be the first company they come to for solving engineering problems."

In addition to the expansion, Forth’s current Barrow team plan to create new posts including a mechanical engineer, quality controller, additional technicians, and project management degree apprenticeships.

The Ashburner Way site will also serve as a training site for welders to attain the necessary qualifications.

After its establishment in 2018 by Tony Sneesby, Forth's Barrow operation had employed four staff members by the time it set up an office at Peter Green Way a year later.

The number of employees grew steadily, reaching eight when the company moved its base to Flass Lane in Barrow.

Mr Sneesby highlighted the company's focus on sustainable employment.

He said: "We focus on work being a fulfilling and rewarding part of life.

"Forth takes this approach, which can be very different to working for a larger company, so that our people gain expertise and experience across a range of skills and disciplines and have an opportunity to take responsibility early in their careers.

"We feel this well-rounded approach helps people’s personal life, as well as their career development, and hopefully means they are fulfilled in their job here at Forth and enjoy solving different challenges."

Forth has been recognised for its community involvement, winning the Best Community Involvement at the in-Cumbria business awards in November.
