MEMBERS of a band from Barrow are celebrating after their original charity Christmas single hit the top ten UK iTunes chart.

Band in Dystopia were thrilled over the weekend when the single reached the top 30 before swiftly climbing into the top ten.

Members continued to be astounded throughout the day however as they watched the song take over Wham!, Mariah Carey and Take That.

Light a Candle was released on December 15 and is available to download on iTunes or Amazon for just 99p.

The song needed 3,000 downloads between December 15 and 21 to just make it into the top 40.

The single, which also has a music video, is to raise money for four charities in the Barrow area covering food, shelter, care and mental health.

The song now sits in the top ten after climbing to number seven.

One of the singers John Rennie said: "I've been writing songs for 25 years. To have one in top 10 of the iTunes chart is a dream come true.

"Forever grateful to everyone supporting this. An original Christmas charity single by a group from Barrow at No.1 in the UK iTunes chart is now a real possibility."

The group is donating all download proceeds to local charities including Barrow Foodbank, Mind-in-Furness, Furness Homeless Support Group and St Mary's Hospice.
