BARROW'S Charity Christmas single is currently beating festive favourites Wham! and Mariah Carey in the UK iTunes chart.

Band in Dystopia released their Light a Candle single on December 15 which is available to download on iTunes or Amazon.

Band members needed 3,000 downloads of the original Christmas single between December 15 and 21 to make the top 40.

They were astounded however when the song leapt to number 30 beating Take That and Beyonce this morning.

The single has now climbed even further past Last Christmas by Wham! and Mariah's All I want for Christmas is You.

Dystopia collaborated with nine local singers and the South Lakes Rock School Rock & Pop Choir on an original Christmas single and music video to raise money for four charities in the Barrow area covering food, shelter, care and mental health.

One of the singers, John Rennie, said: "As I speak we are No.14 in the iTunes chart which is already a dream come true. It's amazing to see how our community has come together to support this campaign.

"A massive thank you to everyone who has supported us already. Our goal is a top 40 finish in the UK Official Singles Christmas Day Chart which is released on Friday 22nd December.

"The UK iTunes Chart updates on a daily basis and it's giving everyone the belief that we really could get that top 40 finish on Friday. All digital sales from 15th-21st December will count towards the chart position on Christmas Day.

"So we're asking people to keep downloading and sharing posts with the download link to our song on Amazon and iTunes until midnight on Thursday 21st December.

"We're also asking people to reach out to those not on social media where most of our promotion has been. That could really be the difference.

"All you need is 99p and an internet connection to support your community and create a wonderful positive story for Barrow this Christmas."

The group is donating all download proceeds to local charities including Barrow Foodbank, Mind-in-Furness, Furness Homeless Support Group and St Mary's Hospice.

Android users can buy from Amazon with iPhone users being able to download iTunes app (not Apple Music) and download from there.
