A MOUNTAIN rescue team responded to several calls over the weekend after heavy snowfall hit Cumbria.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team were asked to assist other emergency services when heavy snow fell in the region.

On Saturday December 2, the team were called at 3.30 and health with various incidents, including a potential cardiac arrest, a suspected stroke, head injuries caused by an assault, an elderly male in need of help after carers were unable to attend him, a suspected spinal fracture from a sledging accident and several urgent medication requests.

On that day, 17 team members dealt with the incidents across 8 hours. 

On the midnight of Sunday, December 3 with snow still falling, roads blocked and abandoned vehicles, their assistance was required for further jobs.

These included a reported heart attack, welfare checks on people stranded in vehicles and transport of urgent medication, with 17 team members assisting.
