Around 140 bollards across Dalton have been festively decorated.

The Dalton Community Action Group (DCAG) has teamed up with the Dalton Yarn Bombers to give the bollards new covers just in time for the Christmas period.

The aim for next year is to go one step further and ensure that every single bollard in the area is decorated to get the town in the festive spirit.

A spokesperson for the DCAG said: "This time next year, every bollard should be covered, since there's only five or six left and then the never-used bike racks can be covered.

"Well done everyone - it certainly does help the town look Christmassy."

The Dalton Yarn Bombers originally contributed back in 2021 with the DCAG's community knitters group having worked on the project in the following years.

At the very start of the three-year endeavor, only 62 bollards were covered, showing the progress that has been made by the group.

"Nothing seems to stop us from enjoying ourselves and leading the way as a strong community that is full of talent and ideas to make our town number one," said the spokesman.

The stage has now been set for the Dalton Christmas lights switch-on, which takes place on Sunday, December 3.

The decorations have once again proved to be a big hit with locals, especially those driving through the town.

One user on Facebook said: "Big pat on the back to all who gave up time to make these fantastic covers."

Another added: "I drove through Dalton yesterday, they look fantastic and you can't help but smile."
