MONEY is being raised to help local families receive food hampers for Christmas.

Julie Craghill, from Millom, has set up a fundraiser for Family Action at Millom Children's Centre to help local families by raising £500 toward their food hampers this Christmas.

Ms Craghill said in Millom there are 'many families' who need some extra support.

She said: "It's nearly Christmas again, which for most means Christmas cake, mince pies and Christmas dinner. Sadly, this isn't the reality for many families in need this Christmas.

"Due to the cost of living, increase in food prices, increase in utility bills and other family circumstances this year means that many families will struggle this Christmas.

"Again, this year we will be raising funds to donate food hampers to local families in need in Millom. This will take some of the pressure off these families and enable them to have a wonderful Christmas."

This is Julie's fifth year supporting the group with the hampers. Before that, she used to do a toy collection.

"I buy the items and help Family Action put the hampers together, who then distribute to families in need," said Julie.

"I started as I hated the thought of families, especially little children going without food. If everyone does a little to help others it makes the world a nicer place."

The fundraiser has already reached more than half of the target, with nine donations amounting to £260.

Julie said: "Please join us and give what you can, no matter the amount and help make Christmas magical for local families in need.

"Any funds raised over what is needed for the hampers will be used to buy additional gifts for the children in those families."
