A balloon shop in Barrow finished as runners-up at the UK Balloon Artist Awards.

For Any Occasion Events fended off stiff competition from over 400 entrants at the awards ceremony, which took place at the Birmingham Grand Hotel on Friday.

They were competing in the Balloon Retailer or Party Store of the Year award, which marked the first time they had been nominated for such an honour.

Lynne Myerscough-Newton, the owner of For Any Occasion Events, said: "The event brought together talented independent balloon artists and retailers from across the country, so the team is elated to receive this acknowledgment."

The success has served as vindication for their recent move, which saw them shift their premises from Cavendish Street to Derry Street.

"This recognition demonstrates that we made the right move, and we are continuing to go from strength to strength," Ms Myerscough-Newton explained.

"We now have the space to showcase our extraordinary balloon displays, allowing our customers to witness the magic of our balloons rather than just hearing about them."

The business has deep roots in the area that trace back 45 years when it first arrived at Barrow Market Hall.

The awards night showcased the best and most innovative balloon designs in the industry.

Away from For Any Occasion's award category, there was recognition for the best organic display, deliverable display, classic display, themed display and display involving props.

There were also awards for the People's Choice, the best newcomer and the balloon artist of the year.

For Any Occasion was narrowly beaten in their category by Highworth Emporium in Swindon though the runners-up spot exemplifies the upward trend the business has been heading in.

A move to Cavendish Street three years ago was done to help the business grow even further, with the new Derry Street showroom highlighting the success of those original plans.
