WALNEY Island Juniors FC have donated a full set of football kits to a coaching academy in Zambia.

The community football club, with teams ranging from under 7s to under 16s, have partnered with ‘Superade Soccer Excellence’, in Ndola – around 7,500 miles away.

The opportunity came as Walney Island Juniors FC partnered with the Weave Foundation, a non-profit organisation that support grassroot projects across the region.

James Lee, junior team manager of the Walney Island under 7s team, said: “Quite a few of the players have gone on to play for the Zambian national team.

“They really appreciate what we do. It’s great for them and it’s good for us because it’s a bit of culture for Barrow.

"They’re always in need of footballs and other sportswear, so we’ll definitely be looking at donating more in the future.

“We’re also going to start sending over our weekly match reports, so we can share scores and things like that.”

This season James has helped to guide his under 7s side to the Autumn Trophy Shield.

“I think a lot of the Walney Island senior team would definitely get behind this,” James added.

"I think a lot will be quite happy to donate their stuff once they hear about it.”
