A MEN'S suicide prevention charity with clubs all over the UK is set to come to Barrow early next year.

Andy's Man Club (AMC) is free-to-attend with peer-to-peer support groups across the UK and online.

The club is named after Andrew Roberts who took his own life in 2016 at age 23.

It started with just nine men meeting in Halifax, West Yorkshire, three months after Andy's death, however has now grown to well over 150 clubs - with new ones opening regularly.

Ahead of International Men's Day on Sunday, November 19, TransPennine Express (TPE) unveiled a newly wrapped train in the charity's branding reminding customers that ''#it'soktotalk'.

Elaine Roberts, co-founder of AMC and Andrew's mum, welcomed the train into Hull Train Station from Liverpool Lime Street to mark its maiden journey.

In Cumbria the first club opened at the start of this year with meetings taking place every Monday from 7pm to 9pm at Workington Town Rugby League Club.

Around 12 men have been giving up their free time and travelling to Workington weekly to complete training as facilitators to set up a new club in Barrow - which will be opening in February 2024.

A spokesperson for Andy's Man Club said: "Being a facilitator isn’t much different to the other guys in the room, other than they open the doors and give guys the platform to speak confidentially and judgement-free and hopefully lead them to a more positive future.

"These guys have thrown themselves in, many travelling to Workington each Monday to see AMC in action’.

"We are really looking forward to opening Andy's Man Club in Barrow in February 2024. Watch this space and follow our social media sites for more info."

The charity's aim is to end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and help men through the power of conversation.

Any man over 18 in the community is welcome, regardless of background, beliefs or where you work. The club is designed to be a safe and welcoming place for guys to vent.
