Both Barrow and Ulverston markets have made it into the preliminary top 25 across the UK.

Every year the group The National Association of British Markets organises a vote for the Great British Market of the Year Awards.

The first shortlist was released on Tuesday with Barrow and Ulverston making the cut, though this could change by the time voting officially closes on December 15.

Based on the votes that come in, a further shortlist will be made, with the markets included then judged by a panel of experts.

People can vote once per day to influence the results, meaning both markets still need the support of their local communities to stand a chance of winning.

Votes can be made through the NABMA website.
