A SOUTH Cumbria restaurant is celebrating after retaining its AA Rosette status.

Base Restaurant, located in Ford Park in Ulverston, retained its one AA Rosette Award for Culinary Excellence.

The restaurant received its first AA Rosette Award in October 2022, becoming the only restaurant in Ulverston with the award.

Base's chef Mark Satterthwaite said: "We are really proud to retain the one AA Rosette and hopefully on the second visit, we might get a second - we are on the right path.

"It is really good for the town and for us - we are the only place in town that has any Rosettes, so we are very chuffed.

"We have a really close-knit team with a lot of drive and passion for it.

"Without our customers, we wouldn't be here at all, so it is all thanks to them."

In June 2020, Mark took over The Coach House at Ford Park and re-branded the business as Base to offer contact-less takeaways during the pandemic period.

Since July 30 2020, a flavour-filled daytime menu and rosette standard evening menu have been on offer at Base restaurant, along with complete wedding packages.

Mark said: "The first eighteen months we were in between lockdown and reopening. We were doing the diner home boxes and takeaways, which was a really good starting point because we were able to have a customer base before we actually opened the doors."

Born and bred in the South Lakes, he makes the very most of the ingredients available locally.

He said that Ulverston is a 'great place' to have his business.

"Ulverston is a great place to be. The community spirit is really good, and everybody that supports us is Ulverston-based," said Mark.

Base is open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 2pm and from Thursday to Saturday from 7pm to 11pm.
