Levens Hall and Gardens, a popular Lake District attraction, has revamped its traditional Christmas event to accommodate the current cost of living crisis.

Traditionally, Levens Hall has concluded its season in early October.

However, for the past two years, it has extended its operations to include a special Christmas event.

Previously a ticketed affair involving a food and drink market and spectacular garden lighting, tickets ranged at around £12 for adults and half price for children.

This year, it has created an event which is less than half the price of the original event.

Their new 'Silhouettes and Song’ Christmas event will run for three weekends – December 2 and 3, 9 and 10, and 16 and 17.

On these dates, visitors will be able to enjoy not only Levens Hall, but also the world’s oldest topiary garden, a Guinness World Record holder, between 11am and 4pm.

Admissions stand at just £5.50 for adults and £2 for children to be paid at the gate.

Visitors will experience over 100 topiary trees that have been precisely trimmed by a dedicated team, providing a visually stunning spectacle against the winter sky.

This unique sight allows for easier appreciation of the intriguing geometric shapes, and trees of notable character, including the Great Umbrellas, Queen Elizabeth I, Darth Vader and Homer Simpson.

Inside the hall, visitors will be treated to various features that contribute to its status as one of England’s most cherished heritage gems.

Complete with atmospheric festive décor, a regal Christmas tree, and roaring fire, the hall will ooze Elizabethan charm.

The festive event will be complemented by a variety of music played by a programme of artists, including South Lakes Acappella and Levens Choir.

Further, Levens Hall's Kitchen and Bakery will also be offering a special festive menu, alongside a selection of festive bakes and cakes.

Levens Hall and Gardens’ owner, Richard Bagot, said: “We know some families are struggling to afford heritage experiences during the cost of living crisis and at a time of rising petrol and diesel prices. "For this reason, we are offering an event at a much lower charge, which is quintessentially British and which will convey the essence of a traditional Christmas.

“We anticipate that the opportunity to hear some of the performers, within the setting of our glorious Elizabethan hall, will create memories for a lifetime and deliver a very unique and moving experience.

"Add to this the opportunity to tick a visit to the world’s oldest topiary garden off the bucket list and we believe we are providing excellent value for money.”
