This year's Christmas lights will be bigger than ever before after Barrow Business Improvement District announced the streets that will be decorated.

New festive lighting has been bought to cover Duke Street and, for the first time in many years, Ramsden Square and Schneider Square will also be brought into the Christmas spirit.

Installation of the lights started this week after it was revealed that a last-minute sponsor was found to give the switch-on event the green light.

Spirit Energy has stepped in to provide the vital funding, allowing the event to take place on Saturday, November 18.

The new infrastructure work in the two squares has come about as the result of a partnership between Barrow BID and Westmorland and Furness Council.

The show itself start at 3pm and last until 6pm, headlined by a local 'switch-on star' who will be announced next week.
