WORLD and national records were once again smashed by power boat teams on Coniston Water.

Competitors from all corners of the UK around the globe descended on the lake for the 51st Annual Powerboat Record Week between October 30 – November 3.

In total, out of 22 entries, there were ten new World Records and 16 British National Records established over 103 attempts on the run.

The fastest run of the week came from Marian Jung, who broke the World Water Speed Record in the Circuit Formula 500 with a speed of 109.39 mph. It comes after he made the 2,000-mile journey to Coniston from Slovakia.

Helen Loney, 42, a Chartered Surveyor from Kendal, was the fastest lady of the week as she eventually left with the British National Record for the National Clubman Unlimited Monohull standing at 75.57 mph after nine attempts.

The youngest competitors of the week were nine-year-old Tate Mantripp, from Suffolk, and 12-year-old Poppy Stewart.

Tate eventually regained the British National GT15 Clubman record at 39.16 mph – making him one of the youngest water speed record breakers, after Poppy had  held the record at 38.84 mph. She still remains the current World Recorder holder of the GT15 EPA class.

Both were awarded silver K7 stars by Club Chairman, Jim Noone as British National Water Speed Record holders.

In the GT30 class, Ashley Penfold left Coniston as the holder of the GT30 World and British National Record in a speed of 53.00 mph. She too, was awarded a silver K7 star.

Will Chambers, 73 from Fermanagh in Ireland, was the oldest record breaker setting a new Irish National and World Record in the HS 850 class at 67.50 mph.

Bill Owen, 67, from Ashton-in-Makerfield, set a new British National record in the National Clubman 1000 Monohull class at 64.86 mph and driver Malcolm Dopson and navigator Clair Williams achieved a new British National OCRDA F1 record at 71.08 mph.

OCRDA President Bob McCarthy once again struck gold as he and his son David established two new World and British National records in the Pleasure Navigation Group A (HOCR) and the Pleasure Navigation Endurance Group B Promotion class at speeds of 63.18 mph and 60.87 mph.

Elsewhere Chris Loney established a new British National record in the National Clubman Unlimited Catamaran class and 15-year-old Kyle Horton established a new World and British National record in the Aquabike Runabout GP2 at 83.02 mph.

His pit mate Chris Atherton established a new World and British National water speed record in the Aquabike Runabout GP1 class at 83.45 mph.
