CADENT said that it 'aims' to finish work today in Windermere after a four-way traffic light system has caused major delays in the town.

Some residents have said on social media that it has taken an hour to cross the town in recent days because of the traffic light system.

A Cadent spokesperson said: "We are carrying out essential gas mains replacement work in Windermere at the moment.  The section of works around Cooks Corner we started on Monday morning and we appreciate it has caused some delays, even with the temporary traffic lights being manned from 7am to 7pm, which was meant to help reduce delays and was agreed with the local highways authority.

“To enable the work to be completed quicker, we are working late into the night this evening (October 31) and we are aiming to complete this section of work and have the traffic management off the road by Wednesday afternoon, instead of completing the work by the weekend.

“We are doing everything we possibly can to reduce the disruption to these essential works, we appreciate your patience a little longer.”
