MUSIC LOVERS who attended the first-ever live music performance at the Sir John Barrow monument have described it as a 'privilege' to witness the gig.

Well-known local musician Peter Buckley performed a set on October 28 from 4.30pm to 5.30pm which also raised money for a very good  cause.

Ulverston family The McPhillips have raised £83,000 for charity over the past two decades. Ange McPhillips was pivotal in helping raise those funds and sadly passed away on October 10.

Her family wished to raise money in her honour for Barrow charity Lookin' Good and Feelin' Great.

The group of local women help individuals and families that are dealing with cancer, as well as raising awareness of its early signs.

£153.90 was raised from ticket sales along with a personal donation from Peter of £96.10 - which amounted to £250 in total being donated to the Just Giving Page

Peter managed to capture the special gig, along with its unique atmosphere, in a recording.

"This was one of the most magical moments of my life," he said. "I reckon in 10, 15, 20 or 45 years time I'll be looking back and wondering; did that actually happen?

"I had a blast. It sold out the night before which I was delighted about but also relieved as there was an audience of about 33.

"The atmosphere was great as the wind was howling outside and we were all packed into a beautiful space on the ground floor of the Sir John Barrow Monument.

"I set up a condenser microphone to record the entire gig and captured the atmosphere well which I'm delighted about."

Peter is going to mix the audio then get it professionally mastered to release online and on CD with all proceeds going to the Lookin' Good & Feelin' Great charity.

Some of those who were present at the gig took to Sir John Barrow Monument's Facebook page to express their gratitude at being present at the landmark's first-ever live gig.

One woman said: "It was a privilege to be there. It was an awesome night in an iconic place that means a lot to the people of Ulverston, watching a very talented artist and lovely man."

One man said: "Now this is what we need right now here"

Another woman added: "Awesome thing you have done" with another adding "Fantastic! It was a fabulous gig Pete."

Mike McPhillips, husband of Ange, also commented to say: "Can't thank you enough for you words and your very thoughtful donation. Some people never cease to amaze me and you are one of them."
