LAKE District mountain rescue teams will be featured on BBC Radio 4 next month after they were recorded for a package on rescues in the fells.

Team members from the Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) were pictured with Helen Mark from BBC Radio 4's Open Country while out in the fells last week.

According to BBC Sounds, the episode that will feature the Lake District mountain rescue teams will be broadcast on Thursday, November 9 at 3pm.

A spokesperson from the team said: "Earlier this week, a couple of team members met with Helen Mark from BBC Radio 4's Open Country. Along with other Lake District Mountain Rescue Teams, we were asked to say a few words on how our rescues have evolved over recent years, as well as what our volunteers get up to behind the scenes.

"For those that are interested, this is due to air in November."

The team promised to provide a reminder on its social media page closer to the time that the package will be broadcast for those who wish to listen.

Helen Mark has presented Open Country for 22 years after her broadcasting career moved into rural affairs when she began reporting for Countryfile and Farming Today in 1997. Her show is on Thursdays at 3pm.

The BBC states that Open Country 'features the people and wildlife that shapes the landscape of the British Isles.'

The mountain rescue teams are self-funded volunteers. The teams rely on donations and fundraising activities in order to operate.

The Lake District mountain rescue teams received national media attention in February 2021 after Patterdale member Chris Lewis suffered severe spinal injuries in a 150-metre fall at Kirkstone Pass while trying to rescue campers, who were breaching Covid-19 lockdown rules.

A fundraiser set up in support of Mr Lewis raised more than £1m. Tragically, he died on Monday, September 4 this year.
