A PUB landlord whose husband is having radiotherapy treatment is raising money for Macmillan.

Simon Rayner-Langmead, from the Hare and Hounds pub in Bowland Bridge, put on the event at the pub on Friday, 29 September. They sold cakes and refreshments and hosted a raffle to raise the money. The pub raised over £1,000 from the day for the cancer support charity.

His partner Jeremy is currently going through radiotherapy treatment for prostate cancer and Simon says that Macmillan has been 'brilliant' through the period. Simon said the idea of raising money for Macmillan was raised in a company meeting, and they decided to go ahead with it.

Simon said: "Everybody in the pub has been affected by cancer in some way over the years. It has a place in all of our thoughts. We had various members of our local community bring cakes. We had some really nice raffle prizes. It brought lots of different people together.

"My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer just about a year and a half ago. His cancer came back, and at the moment he is actually having radiotherapy. Macmillan were brilliant and Jeremy became an ambassador for them.

"It is not the best of times, we have got to keep moving forwards."

Macmillan provides services for people living with cancer at every stage of their experience. According to its website, it is 98 per cent funded by voluntary donations.

The charity provides people with physical, financial and emotional support, and also campaigns on issues related to cancer.

The Hare and Hounds pub has also raised money for the Windermere food bank and other good causes in the area.

Simon said: "We do whatever we can to support causes in the area. Anything we can put a little bit of something back. Something we try and so are events that resonate with us as a team."
