ST Mary's Hospice has shown its gratitude for the continued support of businesses by giving them cakes.

As part of their 'Thank You week', team members from St Mary's Hospice went out into the community to repay the kindness shown to them.

With a meeting hosted at Charnleys Home and Garden on Friday, a representative from the hospice was able to provide group members from BNI Endeavour with specially made baked goods.

President Sam Procter said: "I mean, we all love cake, don't we?

"And, as a team, we're constantly going above and beyond to help the community and institutions such as St Mary's, so it's really nice for that to be recognised."

BNI, a networking and referral organisation based in Barrow-, works to unite businesses across the region.

"As a group, we aim to raise at least £15,000 annually for St Mary's Hospice and we are well on our way to reach that target for this financial year already," Mr Procter added.

"Most recently we have had two members, Carole from JD Training and Rob from RTG Cumbria Building, complete the Great North Run in aid of St Mary's and they've raised over £1,000 collectively."

A thank you was also given to South West Lakes NFU after the organisation donated £6,443 to the hospice, pushing BNI one step closer to their annual fundraising goal.

Their efforts to unite the community will continue on Friday, September 6, with their 'Guest Day', which encourages every member to bring a new person to the session to witness the work they are doing.

Mr Procter explained. "It's just a really positive, local event for local businesses.

"We've got really established businesses as well as new start-ups as part of our network, and they all get to help one another."
