A restaurant has brought in a group of puppies to greet guests.

The Sun Inn in Kirkby Lonsdale previously had a black labrador called Charlie doing the job but he died earlier this year.

The team initially decided to recruit a new dog as a replacement but grew besotted with all three, leading to the establishment's latest trio of residents.

Iain Black, a member of staff at the Sun Inn, said: "In June our general manager Janine went to look at some Sprocker spaniel pups. She chose ‘Panda’ out of the two males, which left Bruce.

"But I just could not resist his cute patchy face. He is now our chief greeter and mostly resides at the Inn."

The mark on their hearts left behind by Charlie meant that a Labrador was a must-have in order to fill that gap.

"Along came pup number three, Oscar the black Labrador, who was advertised from a nearby farm in Barbon and so we chose him," Mr Black explained.

After being awarded two AA rosettes for their service, the restaurant and hotel will be hoping that the dogs will give even more reason for locals to pop in for a meal.

"You will often see Bruce if you visit our friendly inn, and occasionally, when all three are here, the trio will be causing chaos in the office, in the bar and in and around Kirkby Lonsdale," he said.

"They are, to say the least, lively and a little competitive."

The four-legged additions to the team are set to encourage other dog lovers from the area to visit.

"If you are visiting Kirkby Lonsdale with a furry friend, all of our puppy pals would love to meet you," said Mr Black.

"We have treats and bowls of water on offer so whilst you relax and enjoy a meal, you can rest assured your pooch will be well looked after."
