BARROW footballer Georgia Stanway has supported a fundraising event collecting money for cancer support services in the town.

A cabaret night is being hosted at the Soccer Bar on Wilkie Road on October 21 to raise money for Breast Cancer Research after Silvia Dale was diagnosed with the disease.

While still going through chemotherapy, Mrs Dale, alongside her husband Grahame, have put together the event which has now been backed by the local football star.

Mrs Dale said: "With everything that has happened I decided that I wanted to give something back to the services that have helped me along in my journey."

She wanted to thank her family, friends and the community for the support they have provided.

"The people of Barrow and Furness have been so generous. We have a range of fantastic items that will be auctioned or raffled on the night," Mr Dale added.

"The latest gift was received on Thursday and it has blown us away."

Mrs Dale was diagnosed with breast cancer on April 19 after going for an appointment about a different matter.

She is now going through Paclitaxel Chemotherapy once a week for 12 weeks, which has inspired her to raise money.

Mrs Dale explained: "Between my second and third week into chemo I noticed that my hair was starting to fall out so I took the decision that cancer was not going to beat me and take my hair away.

"We decided to do a sponsored head shave and I have raised over £1,070."

Added to this, the night of live music will begin at 8pm with doors opening at 7pm.

At £10 a ticket, guests will have the chance to listen to local gems from the music scene, including Andy Newsham and John Halligan.

As well as Breast Cancer Research, the money raised will be going to Looking Good Feeling Great and the Oncology Unit.

Tickets for the event can be bought from the website set up by the couple's friend Pete Murphy, and raffle prizes are still being accepted.
