A FAMILY who ran a popular pub and bistro have announced with mixed emotions that today (September 29) is their final day open for business.

The Pig & Whistle in Cartmel has been run by Tim Smith and Emma Taylor with the help of their children since September 2015 but will now shut its doors for the final time.

Speaking on a Facebook post on September 24, a family member said: “We have had an incredible journey with plenty of great memories and friends made over the more than eight years we have had at the Pig.

“Please feel welcome to join us for our final day on Friday and hopefully we can create one last set of memories before we leave.

“We would also like to express our thanks for both the customers who made our pub so unique over the past eight years, but especially the staff who have helped our family cope with the associated pressures and create a welcoming environment for both locals tourists alike.

“We COULD NOT have done it without you!”

The pub will be under new ownership from next month.
