THE Lake District National Park Authority visitor centre at Brockhole is applying for a second jetty adjacent to the current one.
The visitor centre submitted an application to the planning department of the Park Authority. In the design and access statement, drawn up by Iteriad, the plans are: "Introducing a second level jetty and slipway for better management of boat hire, improvements to existing jetty, proposed seat terracing and steps associated with swimming activities, resurfacing damaged areas of existing grass and paving, together with improving drainage."
The site is used by visitors to enjoy the views and participate in various activities. The statement continues: "This area suffers a very high amount of wear and tear associated with the volume of visitors and the watersports activities."
The plan is to build a new timber jetty that matches the existing one, refurbish and lower the older existing jetty and introduce new electric boat charging points.
The mini golf holes would be relocated to make way for the new jetty.
The developer said that the benefit of the new jetty would be that it would enable the lakeshore team to manage the launching of boats in an enclosed zone away from canoe and swimming areas.
