A MAN who died following a two-vehicle collision at Kirkstone Pass on 14 September 2023 , has been named Renne Jan Leeters, aged 59, from Belgium. 

Mr Leeters sadly died at the scene following a road traffic collision which involved a van and a motorcycle.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who saw a motorcyclist travelling down the A592 towards Ambleside from Kirkstone Pass at around 12.22pm on 14 September.

The bike was a BMW with distinctive metal carrying boxes on both sides.

Police had to shut the pass on 14 September shortly after the incident happened. 

A section of Kirkstone Pass between Brothers Water and the Kirkstone Inn was shut for most of June this summer as part of Department for Transport's 'Safer Roads Project.' 

Further works are currently taking place but the road remains open with temporary traffic lights. The next closure will be for a maximum of three weeks starting on October 2 which will involve excavating the entire width of the carriageway to support its full reconstruction.
