Unemployed people in Barrow have been encouraged to attend an event on Tuesday, September 19, that focuses on flexible working.

Taking place at the Forum, the session will bring together local businesses to recruit new employees on varied contracts.

It is organised by the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, the DWP and the Centre for Leadership and Performance.

The Cumbria LEP said: "As of May 2023, we had 6,745 claimants actively seeking work in Cumbria, with approximately 57,000 people in the county aged 16-64 being economically inactive.

"By actively promoting and discussing more flexible ways of working in a face to face and easily accessible environment, we may attract more people into the labour market."

Examples of the flexible contracts on offer include reduced hours, flexible start and finish times, and condensed hours over reduced days.
