A well-known and popular man in Ulverston has had his luscious locks cut off to raise money for a local hospice.
Dennis Metcalfe, described as a 'good friend of St Mary’s Hospice' sat down in the barber's chair on Thursday to 'brave the shave.'
According to the Just Giving page, the hair was a 'big loss' for Dennis so much encouragement and support was needed.
He chose to lose the hair to help the hospice that provides care for patients living with life-shortening illnesses or long-term conditions.
The brave act raised over a staggering £9,000 with £8,324 raised through the Just Giving page alone.
Area fundraising manager Annabelle Holloway said: "Everyone at St Mary’s Hospice is overwhelmed by the support that the community has shown both Dennis and their local hospice.
"So far, he has raised over £9,000 for the hospice including gift aid and we are incredibly grateful to Dennis and to everyone who had donated.
"The amount raised is testament to how well-loved Dennis is by the local community."
The event took place around 1pm at St Mary’s Hospice and a video posted to its Facebook page shows Dennis finally taking to the barber's chair.
In front of a crowd of spectators who counted down from ten, Zara from FLY Ulverston Hair Salon then did the honours.
She began with a razor as Dennis waited patiently for her to take off the top, sides and finally back.
When it was finally done, there was a round of applause with, as woman in the video called it, '£9k worth of hair' left on the floor.
There was an eruption of laughter when another person said: "We'll see you tomorrow with your bobble hat on."
Zara gave a quick tidy up with a pair of scissors before the crowd gave Dennis a 'three cheers' before he quickly took a comb from his pocket and brushed his remaining hair.
You can still donate to Dennis' new 'do fundraiser for St Mary's Hospice. Visit the Just Giving page.
