A new building supplies store has opened in Barrow.

The MKM new store, showroom and warehouse is an independent building merchant on Park Road.

It specialises in building materials, plumbing, heating and landscaping supplies with products ranging from everyday essentials to specialist equipment. Those who require kitchen and bathroom inspiration can also drop by for a consultation with expert designers and explore its showroom.

The store had merchandise, giveaways as well as free breakfast pies, buns, tea and coffee from 7am on Monday (August 7). The official opening ceremony then took place from 9am alongside its local charity partner St.Mary’s Hospice.

The hospice provides care and comfort for patients living with life-shortening illnesses or long-term conditions. A launch night last Friday (August 4) saw MKM raise over £2,000 for St Mary's through donations and a raffle.

The firm has also just become the official sponsors of the  Barrow Raiders' Rugby League team marquee.

MKM Building Supplies Barrow director Paul Curwen said: "We are absolutely delighted to demonstrate our support of Barrow Raiders through the sponsorship of the marquee for the next two years.

"The marquee is hugely popular on matchdays, of course, but also in regular use with lots of well-attended events throughout the calendar. This sponsorship represents a great way to demonstrate our support of the Raiders and the community.

"Furthermore, the Raiders’ work across several initiatives is very impressive indeed, and aligns with our own focus on developing relationships within the community, supporting charitable causes and nurturing the potential of young people in particular."

Barrow Raiders' chairman Steve Neale added: "Partnering with an organisation of MKM Building Supplies’ standing is really great news for the club, and it has been really refreshing to see MKM clearly demonstrate their interest in our community work, and how we are helping create positive change in Barrow-in-Furness as a whole.

"The marquee is a key source of revenue for the club, both in and out of the season, so to see MKM put their name to it for the next two years is indicative of how crucial a role it plays within the local area.

"We look forward to seeing MKM’s new Barrow branch go from strength to strength, and we wish them the very best of luck with this new venture."
