A HAIRDRESSER who has been working as a freelancer for more than a decade is opening her own salon.

Sarah Forristal is set to open her new business Urban Edge Studio located at 10a Anchor Road in Barrow.

The renovated unisex salon is set to open for the public on August 23.

Ms Forristal felt the need to open her own salon as she could not take on more clients.

She said: "I have been working from home for eight years as a freelance and I have been doing hair for 18 years. I needed new premises to provide me with more space.

"I can't do it from home anymore. It is too much because I have got a massive client base."

The hairdresser said her clients were 'really excited' about the opening of the shop.

She said: "I'm quite nervous about the opening but I know it is going to work and it will be for the best. I'm assuming we will be really busy.

"My partner Arron Smith has got it all ready and it wouldn't have happened without him.

"I have got a barber to come in and join us, a nail and makeup artist. I'm going to offer different services, including beauty.

"We are going to offer kids packages also for children's birthdays. There is only one salon in Barrow that offers that, so we are going to make that service available."

Ms Forristal said her passion for hairdressing started when she was younger.

She said: "My mum said that I was good with hair when I was younger in school.

"I went straight to college after school but then my dad got me a job in the yard and I started to do the job on the side.

"Then I had my son and I decided to take it on properly in my house nearly nine years ago so I have been working from home all that time."

Ms Forristal is preparing the last touches ahead of the grand opening.
