Sometimes the best thing to do is just follow the Instructions!

These days we are all expected to be able to use smartphones, tablets and new gadgets in the kitchen and we get the hang of them quite quickly sometimes. But what happens when things go wrong?

Well, my little cheapo tablet was not charging properly and losing power very quickly, which was a nuisance and also concerning - at least to me. So I contacted the helpline, sadly not directly but via the chat! The reply was to hold down the powering off/on button for longer and all would be well. So I did, but no success - what was I doing wrong?

Reading the instructions again, I realised I was only following them partly – 40 seconds of holding down the button, not 10 seconds, were required! Normal battery life was duly restored – by following the exact instructions!

How often do we ignore the advice or instructions we are given, or fail to take the time to seek out sound advice from someone wiser than ourselves?

The Bible is full of instructions for good, sound living if we would only read, take note and put them into practice. Jesus said that the two most important commandments were to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength... and love your neighbour as yourself" (Mark 12:30-31). Following those two instructions is fundamental to living and sharing to make our world a better place. Perhaps we should try a little harder to take note and put them into practice?
