A BUS route in the Lake District has been crowned the most eye-catching in the country.

The 599 bus from Bowness to Grasmere Centre has been named the most scenic in the UK, according to a recent study by the holiday park operator Parkdean Resorts.

The holiday park operator asked participants to watch videos from 30 popular UK bus journeys using eye-tracking software to discover which routes caught the eyes of 150 participants.

The software tracked the total number of times respondents looked at the screen and recorded the average times people looked for each location.

It then looked at any points during the videos where the respondent's eyes were fixed on the screen.

599 bus route achieved a massive gaze count of 1,250 and a fixation count of 116, making it the most eye-catching bus route in the UK.

The 599 runs from Bowness and Windermere to Grasmere via Braithwaite Fold, Brockhole, Ambleside and Rydal.

The 599 passes through scenic lake views with plenty of sights to see, such as the Ambleside Pier and Grasmere and River Rothay and views of the lakes and mountains.

The entire journey takes 109 minutes from start to finish, and its regular service, running every 20 minutes, gives visitors plenty of freedom to explore.

A ride on the 599 costs £9 for a tourist day ticket with the whole journey.

However, until October, it falls under the government's £2 price cap, making it a cost-efficient way to get around.

With a rating of four out of five stars on TripAdvisor, riders of this route have said: "This is not just a bus journey - it's an adventure."

What makes the 599 even more unique is that it is an open-top double-decker bus.

As part of the study, the 555 from Lancaster to Keswick has been named the fifth most eye-catching bus journey in the country.

The bus route passes through Carnforth, the Rydal Church and Milnthorope.

Participants gazed at this scenic bus route 1,148 times.
