A FATHER and daughter duo are preparing to hang up their costumes for the final time this weekend after 25 years of entertainment.

Retired accountant Tim Melville and his daughter Su have been performing across Cumbria and the country for more than two decades as part of their entertainment show, Uncle Tim’s Flea Circus Show.

Mr Melville, who formerly ran TJ Melville and Co, was encouraged to try out street theatre following a workshop. Too nervous to take to the streets on his own, he roped in his 25-year-old daughter to share centre stage.

And decades later, the pair have travelled across the county and beyond to perform their hugely successful show, featuring in Ulverston's Another Fine Fest, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Countryfile and more.

Su Melville, who plays Uncle Tim’s assistant Daisy, said the pair have loved performing their unique street theatre act but have decided now is the right time to hang up their hats.

She said: “We’ve absolutely loved doing it. What’s really amazing is we now have people coming up to us bringing their little kids saying we used to watch you when we were kids, which makes me feel old! It’s become almost generational.

“We’ve had such fun and games doing it. It’s got to a time now where my dad’s 77 and the time feels right to go out with a bang.”

The pair are performing their last and final act at Another Fine Fest in Ulverston this weekend.

“It will be a sad day but we will go out with a bang,” said Su.

“We’ve shared this for so many years, it’s so much fun.

“Another Fine Fest is such an amazing festival, it’s great to go out in glorious weather in a fabulous setting.”

Uncle Tim’s Flea Circus Show will be performing outside Costa in Market Street at 11am and 2pm on Saturday.

The two-day festival will kick off tomorrow until Sunday, with thousands of people expected to descend on Ulverston.
