A new art exhibition opens in Barrow this weekend that will explore the shared need that AI has with humans for water.
Troubled Waters was created by award-winning Danish artist Stine Deja as a new commission for Signal Film and Media.
Deja has re-imagined Monet's 'Bridge over a pond of water lilies' and has given it an industrial makeover, where a stark steel bridge invites visitors over a pond populated by artificially bred, robotic fish.
The fish are a commentary on research that revealed that chat bots in Microsoft’s U.S. data centres directly consume 700,000 litres of clean freshwater.
The installation will highlight issues around depleting water resources and ageing water infrastructures.
Cumbrian artist Zoe Forster also has her installation, Looking Out, Looking In, at the Tidal Exhibition which explores the marriage between the natural coastline of Walney Island and the urbanised mainland of Barrow.
Taking place at Cooke's Studios on Abbey Road, the advanced preview is on Friday June 16 from 5.30pm - 7.30pm. Both artists will deliver talks at the launch event with snacks and refreshments available.
The Tidal Exhibition runs from Saturday June 17 until July 15 from Wednesdays to Saturdays, 11am - 5pm.
