DOZENS of brave souls stripped off their kit to bare their birthday suit as part of a nudist walk across the Morecambe Bay sands.

More than 70 nudists basked in the sunshine to attend a British Naturism-organised walk from Arnside to Grange on Sunday (June 11).

This Cross Morecambe Bay Naked Heart Walk follows the success of the group’s 2021 event when around 60 naturists participated.

British Naturism’s North West organiser Ron O’Hare hopes the popular event will encourage more people to embrace their naked bodies.

“It was a fantastic day – we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Everyone had a really great day raising money for the British Heart Foundation,” said Ron, who leads naturists events across the county.

“We ended up having to walk a bit further than planned – seven and a half miles – because of the shifting sands which was a bit gruelling.”

Walkers enjoyed soaring temperatures across the weekend before taking a refreshing, well-earned swim in the River Kent.

Legally, any person is allowed to sunbathe naked on any beach, however, good beach etiquette would mean sticking to designated nudist beaches.

Ron, who has been practising the controversial lifestyle choice for over 20 years, urges anyone interested in taking part in a nudist walk to ‘give it a go’.

He said: “Clothing is entirely optional on naked walks which works well for people trying it for the first time. They can choose to take their kit off or not. It’s entirely up to them.

“Give it a try. There were people doing it for the first time this weekend and told me after how exhilarating they found it.

“We had three nurses raising money for the British Heart Foundation and they told me it was absolutely fantastic. It’s great to have such positive feedback.

“It helps having such wonderful weather.'
