READERS have had their say after it was revealed that there were fewer motorists convicted of speeding offences in Cumbria last year, according to new figures.

The Cumbria figures contrast with a record national high.

Figures from the Ministry of Justice show 1,740 motorists caught by Cumbria Constabulary were convicted in courts for speeding offences in 2022.

It was down slightly from 1,747 convictions the year before.

Barrow Lad said: “You could clock that many in Barrow in just one week never mind a year.”

Dalton lad said: “This figure could be quadrupled in Dalton alone. The problem is resources and public attitude towards what too many motorists today see as petty prosecutions.”

Local dog said: “A shame Cumbria Police are so stretched because they'd get many convictions for drivers coming through Parkhouse Road and Yarlside Road in Roose. Some absolute morons coming through at killer speeds. Just waiting for the first death.”

Guapo added that there are also problems on ‘Market Street and Skelgate’.
