BARROW AFC have announced Port Vale's David Worrall as Pete Wild's first summer signing.

The Bluebirds confirmed that the versatile 32-year-old midfielder will join the club on a free transfer, subject to EFL approval, following the expiration of his contract at Andy Crosby's League One outfit.

Worrall will join Wild's side on a two-year deal.

Worrall arrives in South Cumbria from Staffordshire with nearly 500 EFL appearances to his name at clubs such as Millwall, Southend, and then Premier League side West Bromwich Albion.

A creative midfielder, who can also play on the wing and as a full-back, Worrall is a statement of intent for Wild's side, with the Bluebirds manager delighted to welcome him to the club.

Speaking on the club's website, Wild said: "The signing of David is a real statement of intent from us.

"He comes with a wealth of experience and a fantastic record of assists.

"We wanted to add good experience to the group and bring in players who know what it takes to get to the next level.

"I hope fans and potential targets look at this signing and recognise that this is a top signing for us."

Worrall, speaking to the Barrow AFC club website said: "I can't wait to get started, I am really looking forward to meeting the lads and seeing what we can achieve as a football club.

"When I spoke to the manager and heard his plans it really motivated me and it’s a journey I want to be a part of."
