TWO brothers have successfully reopened a popular chip shop.
Cem Oktem and his brother Cihan Oktem reopened the doors of Priory Plaice Fish and Chip shop in Ulverston after its previous owners shut up shop.
Priory Plaice opened quietly last Thursday, with nothing announced on social media as to allow the business to ease things in with the new team.
Cem has been a trainer at the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) training school since 2017 and helped the previous owners of Priory Plaice Fish and Chip set up their business.
The business, on Priory Road, is their third site.
The brothers have been in the industry for 15 years, taking over Packet Bridge Fish and Chips in Bolton Le Sands in February 2008 and opening Westgate Fish and Chips in Morecambe in November 2019.
Apart from fish and chips, the shop also sells various food items including squid rings, halloumi, homemade codfish cake and cheese and spring onion potato cakes.
The brothers have replicated the menus from their two other fish and chip shops and said: “From the feedback we’ve received so far, customers seem to be happy with it.”
At the moment, the fish and chip shop is only taking walk-ins but they hope to have a new website as well as a click and collect service live next week.
They aim to keep the business 'very traditional' providing 'high-quality ingredients' and 'quality service'. The plan is to open the shop seven days a week.
The brothers said they always try and source local produce where possible, but mainly focus on sourcing the best produce available in order to make the best possible product.
Cem said: “We were very busy considering, and the new team coped brilliantly. Once word got out on Friday and Saturday, we were extremely busy, we are very thankful for everyone’s support.
“We still have a few teething issues to sort out, we are waiting on a few pieces of equipment that will help our efficiency.”
In April 2022, Priory Plaice was listed in Fry Magazine as one of the top 50 fish and chip takeaways in the UK.
