AN IMPRESSIVE replica of the Lake District National Park in Lego form will be on display at Windermere Jetty Museum.
The model represents Buttermere, Crummock Water, Honister Pass, Borrowdale, Derwent Water and the edge of Keswick in 200,000 pieces and 60 boards covering ten square metres.
The artist behind the model, Jon Tordoff, plans to extend it even further. He started the project during the lockdown and has always enjoyed Buttermere.
After thirty years of painting and working as a mathematician, Jon initially enjoyed the challenge of building the model to scale.
Jon Tordoff said: “What began as a hobby in lockdown has turned into an ongoing artwork I’m not sure will ever end.
“I’m delighted to have the model displayed at Windermere Jetty Museum – it's a beautiful setting with views of the hills beyond Windermere. I hope it will inspire people to get out on the fells this summer and experience the Lake District.”
Lakeland Arts, the arts and heritage charity that runs Windermere Jetty Museum, will display the model over the summer school holidays. Lego-building workshops and activities will be available for museum visitors inspired by Jon’s work.
The model will be on display at Windermere Jetty Museum from July 1 to October 8 2023.
