A NEW competition will run at a folk festival.
Furness Tradition takes place on the second weekend in July in Ulverston and uses the Coronation Hall as a venue.
The volunteer-led festival promotes folk traditions in Cumbria and is themed around music, dance and art.
Two competitions will take place at this year's 25th festival - including an all-new songwriting competition.
Competitors are invited to write a song about one of three themes: local history, people and community Furness traditions.
The winning song will be played during the festival and may be published in a booklet.
The winner(s) will also be awarded a £50 cash prize.
Also returning this year is the dance tune competition, where people will be asked to compose a traditional style dance tune – jigs, reels, hornpipes, polkas and waltzes - to be in with a chance of lifting the John Hazlehurst Memorial Trophy.
John Hazlehurst was a good friend and supporter of Furness Tradition for many years before his death.
The winner(s) will also take home a £50 cash prize and the winning tune will be played during the festival and may be published in a booklet.
Entry for both competitions is open to all.
