BARROW Raiders' hat-trick hero in last Sunday’s emphatic win against Bradford Bulls has given a unique insight into himself.

Full-back Luke Cresswell is the latest in Barrow Raiders' 'Getting to Know' series, each episode of which focuses on one of the club's players in a question-and-answer session.

The 28-year-old Barrow stalwart, in his seventh season at the club, having also represented Cumbria twice, is the latest to answer questions on the club’s official website:

Do you have a job outside of rugby?

"Yes, I work in the shipyard, as a planner."

Describe yourself in three words

"Reliable, happy, and caring."

What inspired you to first start playing rugby?

"Probably my dad and my brother, they brought me down to Barrow as a kid, and pretty much every Sunday we'd go to watch the rugby."

What is your most memorable rugby moment?

"Probably Featherstone away, when we won in 2018, when we actually got relegated.

"But I think personally, I'd had a long time out with injury, and I didn't feel too good in the first few games back.

"Then I got a chance against Featherstone, we won the game, and I scored a hat-trick.

"That gave me a bit of confidence and I got a starting position after that."

Which players inspired you?

"Firstly, Rob Burrow, because I was one of the smaller players on the pitch, and I remember watching him.

"He always made great tackles, and it inspired me – it doesn’t matter what your size."

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given during your rugby career?

"Complacency is the enemy of winners – Paul Crarey."

What are your development goals for this year?

"Just to play as much as possible and try to help the team push up that table, and get plenty more wins."

Who is your partner in crime at the club?

"I'm probably going to go with Rio (Corkill) and Ellis (Archer) as they're always out there before training so I'll always go and join them.

"They're always doing skills so I normally jump in and try to improve mine, so for young lads, they inspire me."
