A GIRL is celebrating her second leading role in a film this week following its nationwide release on April 24.

‘Trafficking’ sees 15-year-old Evie Hughes of Kirkby-in-Furness share the screen with TV stars Michael McKell of the soap opera Emmerdale and Nicholas Ball of the series Hazell.

On working with Evie Hughes, Michael McKell, who has starred in Essex Boys and We Will Rock You said: “The film was an opportunity to work with new young talent that as an older actor it is a responsibility to nurture.

"Watching her together with Richard, Evie is an intuitive actor who will continue to grow”.

Filming took place late last year in London but locations also included local spots such as Moorlands Service Station and Askam-in-furness beach.

The girl from Kirkby was tapped for stardom by director Richard John Taylor following a small role in his previous film The Haunting Of Pendle Hill and starring alongside Coronation Street icon Rula Lenska in The Winter Witch last year.

Richard John Taylor said Evie Hughes impressed producers.

He said: "Three girls auditioned and without hesitation, everybody agreed unanimously on Evie.”

"She was one of my favourite people I have worked with. She is someone who helped me fall in love with making films again, frankly!"

Produced by Taylor’s production company Hello Princess, formed with the late EastEnders actor Leslie Grantham, Trafficking follows a former hitman and down-on-his-luck debt collector known only as Requiem who saves a young girl, Evie Hughes, after her parents are murdered by an international child trafficking gang operated by The Duke, Michael McKell, igniting an violent game of cat-and-mouse.

A sequel, set ten years later, has just been announced with filming expected to begin this Autumn with actress Lizzy Willis taking over the role from Evie Hughes.

‘Trafficking’ is available on all major streaming platforms, including Sky Store, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Virgin Media Store and Google Play on April 24.
