Barrow’s Community Radio Station visited Downing Street

CANDOFM has been recognized as Local Media Champions and were invited to visit 10 Downing Street.

On Wednesday April 18, Andrea and Jonny Williams from the management team at CANDOFM community radio, went to London to receive the award.

They attended a reception for ‘Local Media Champions’, hosted by the Rt Hon Lucy Frazer KC MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media, and Sport.

The DCMS minister emphasised the vital role that local community media organisations play, led by passionate local participants.

These organisations provide inspiring, informative, and relevant content tailored to the interests, issues, news, and current affairs of local communities.

They also had the opportunity visit the Number 10 Downing Street  and were accompanied by Barrow’s MP, Simon Fell.

CANDOFM was nominated as ‘Local Media Champion’s by the MP for Barrow and Furness, Simon Fell.

Simon acknowledged the work CANDOFM is involved with in the community, he said: “CANDOFM promotes local news and events, supports the community, and championing Furness’ arts, culture, and music every day, support local charities, schools, and campaigns, and gives young people vital broadcasting and interviewing experience.

“We are very fortunate to have such a vibrant community station in Furness, so it was an honour to bring CANDOFM to Number 10 and to give them a Local Media Champion Award.”

Manager of the community station, Jonny Williams said: “This is a monumental achievement for the entire CANDOFM team, a testament to the unwavering hard work and dedication everyone has poured into the station. The entire CANDOFM team is immensely proud of this honour, and we sincerely hope that our local community shares in our excitement, agreeing that this accolade is undoubtedly worth celebrating!”
